Hybrid Porsche

Now that's a Porsche (pronounced por-sher not a bloody porch) I can live with! Mean and bold, a proper supercar. Normally I hate the stupid buggy look of a Porsche (unlike my co-contributor). Apart from its look, what's even more astonishing is the fact that it's a hybrid. Yes, you read that correctly. It may make pure-bred motorheads flinch, but it can do 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 198mph while getting an amazing 78mpg. This is made possible by a 500-horsepower V8 coupled with a pair of electric motors producing an extra 218 hp ... annoyingly it's still a concept, but go green!

Movie Wednesday - A Millionaire's First Love

"Since when?"
"What?"
"That you love me"
"Since the moment I saw you
I'm sorry that I couldn't do anything for you"
"Fool. You' ve brought me happiness"

[Baekmanjangja-Ui Cheot-Sarang] - A Millionaire's First Love
Release: February 9, 2006
Country: Korea
Genre: Romance, Fall From Grace, Slice of Lfe
Notable Actor(s)/Actress(es): Hyun Bin
One-Line-Review: Appreciate what you have, because you never know when you will lose it.

Typical story of a wealthy brat kid who has his life changed after meeting the girl. Story is again, nothing to die for. The screenplay is somewhat jumpy in this movie, with plenty of back story missing from the characters and less than average transitions between scenes. For example, one scene you see the main characters arguing with each other, then the immediate following scene they're talking about past memories (which the audiences were assumed to know what happened 19years ago). A couple times I had to rewatch what just happened and listen to the dialog in order to understand a couple of things the characters were talking about. Worst yet, there were some scenes in which I had to just give up understanding whats going on and go with the flow.

I applaud Hyun Bin's performance in this movie as the wealthy brat. Not a lot of actors/actresses perform a believable spoiled kid from my movie watching experiences. So yes, props to him. Unfortunately the chemistry between him and Lee Yeon Hee ( lead female) was more than lacking.

A mediocre movie in the end. Would I watch it again? Not if I like watching paint dry.

Movie Wednesday - Sugar & Spice Fumi Zekka

[Sugar & Spice Fumi Zekka]
Release: September 16, 2006
Country: Japan
Genre: Slice of Life, Romantic
Notable Actor(s)/Actress(es): Erika Sawajiri
One-Line-Review: A story of how every first love becomes one's kryptonite

I love movies like these; slice of life, bittersweet and a heart wrenching ending. Sugar & Spice Fumi Zekka is the movie branch of a larger project called "Sugar & Spice". Originally produced under the theme called 青春★ENERGY (Youth Energy), "Sugar & Spice" is a collection of four 20min short drama series that was aired by Fuji Television in 4th quarter of 2006. The drama series S&S focuses on 4 different couples through the eyes of the female protagonists. Each drama has reoccurring motifs; same opening and ending themes and focuses on the sweet and bitterness of innocent love (hence sugar and spice).

S&S Fumi Zekka is a movie version of yet another couple, this time told through the male protagonist. Unlike the 4 mini episodes, which focused on the beginning of distrust, self-doubt, courage, and unforgettable past feelings, Fumi Zekka focuses on how first loves becomes one's kryptonite in life. Simple story of boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, girl eventually realizes her heart still belong to previous owner, boy loses girl, boy learns from experience and decides to move on. Story is nothing to die for, but the way the story was told was what kept the movie interesting. That can also be said for the acting on Erika Sawajiri's part.

Loved: Sweet innocent story told through good acting
Hated: Setting of the movie (gas station near an American airbase)

Defo a worthy watch for a lazy Saturday afternoon.

New Segment: Movie Wednesday

So in order to make the revival of this blog more interesting, I'm going to start a new segment intelligently named "Movie Wednesday". This is to replace the old "Fashion Wednesday" with movie reviews monthly.

This isn't your typical movie review, mind you. For those reviews you can go to metacritic or imdb for review made by people who gets paid to critic. No. I'm making these review straight to the point, no BS or sugar-coated reviews. Personal opinions may, and most likely will be added to my reviews.

And of course, my movies will not only include western movies (ie: Hollywood), but also worthy indies and short stories from around the world (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand). My taste in flicks include comedy, romance (yes, I actually LIKE those), suspense, and action. No thriller or horror shize.

If you are like me, I like movies that makes you think. Not one of those happy joy rides that Hollywood had dumbed down for the rest of the idiotic viewers it serves. Some movies may require you to bridge alot of mental gaps while some may not have a good closure. Either the case, those are the ones I'm interested in, and the ones I'll be reviewing.

So until Wednesday 2/17/10, otanoshimini

Back!

Aaaaaannndd he's back! Finally, after months of putting off blogging in the the back burner, I've finally decided to jump start the old habit. As a celebratory gesture to post-Valentines Day, heres something to ease back to the website.

Woo
