One-Line-Review: A story of how every first love becomes one's kryptonite

I love movies like these; slice of life, bittersweet and a heart wrenching ending. Sugar & Spice Fumi Zekka is the movie branch of a larger project called "Sugar & Spice". Originally produced under the theme called 青春★ENERGY (Youth Energy), "Sugar & Spice" is a collection of four 20min short drama series that was aired by Fuji Television in 4th quarter of 2006. The drama series S&S focuses on 4 different couples through the eyes of the female protagonists. Each drama has reoccurring motifs; same opening and ending themes and focuses on the sweet and bitterness of innocent love (hence sugar and spice).

S&S Fumi Zekka is a movie version of yet another couple, this time told through the male protagonist. Unlike the 4 mini episodes, which focused on the beginning of distrust, self-doubt, courage, and unforgettable past feelings, Fumi Zekka focuses on how first loves becomes one's kryptonite in life. Simple story of boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, girl eventually realizes her heart still belong to previous owner, boy loses girl, boy learns from experience and decides to move on. Story is nothing to die for, but the way the story was told was what kept the movie interesting. That can also be said for the acting on Erika Sawajiri's part.

Loved: Sweet innocent story told through good acting
Hated: Setting of the movie (gas station near an American airbase)

Intelligence Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Overall Rating: ★★★★

Defo a worthy watch for a lazy Saturday afternoon.
